Internship Program
Gain practical backstage experience in a variety of production areas in a professional theatrical setting. Positions are non-paid, but six units of college credit are available. To be eligible for the internship you must be at least 16 years old with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher. Previous theatre experience is preferred but not required.
The program is highly recommended for graduating high school seniors or for those who are in their first two years of college. From June 21-August 22, 2010, you will have the opportunity to participate in seven theatrical productions. Throughout the summer you will be working in various assigned production areas and you will also participate in weekly discussions with Music Circus staff and guest artists. Six units of college credit are available through American River College.
Please note that acceptance of an internship position will require a full-time commitment! You will be required to work a six-day week with an average of 40 hours per week. You may volunteer for more. Assignments will be rotated so that each intern will gain as much experience as possible. Schedule and assignments are subject to change depending on the needs of the theatre. We are asking for some flexibility from our interns. Due to variable hours of the program and the intense nature of the work, it would be very difficult to hold an outside job while fulfilling an internship at Music Circus.
Music Circus is looking for students who are serious about their theatre training. The hours are long, but the experience is invaluable. This is a chance to get your foot in the door and begin a career working in the theatre. Each year we offer paying jobs to past interns who have proven themselves in non-paid positions. As an intern you will be asked to give your best efforts for the good of the show and the company. This request requires an intense commitment to a high standard of excellence and a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm. Excitement and growth in the theatre comes from taking risks, so if you are willing to further your theatre career goals then fill out an application. Take the risk, apply, interview and experience an exciting season of summer musical theatre.
