    Family Guide

California Musical Theatre offers these viewing recommendations to help patrons decide which productions are appropriate for their families.  Many children, particularly younger ones, may not have the attention span for most presentations or be interested in the themes of a particular work.  This guide takes these factors into consideration as well.  Of course, parents know best what is suitable for their children, but please use this guide to decide which productions to share with you family.  As a courtesy to all patrons, children under 4 are not permitted in the theatre, unless otherwise noted.  Please call the box office at (916) 557-1999 if you have questions about our Family Guide.

"Burn the Floor" is recommended for theatregoers 12 and over.   This theatrical dance production showcases the full range of ballroom-style dance. There is a sexy undertone to this show and skimply costumes, but should be fine for kids who enjoy watching dance reality shows.

"In the Heights" is recommended for theatregoers 12 and over.  With its theme of young people adapting to a changing neighborhood -- and world -- teenagers will enjoy this new musical.  The show contains occasional mild swearing - similar to a PG film.

"Cirque Dreams Holidaze" is recommended for theatregoers 4 and over.   Acrobats, jugglers and dancers are among those who perform in this holiday themed spectacle intended for a family audience.

"9 to 5" is recommended for theatregoers 12 and over.   This work-place musical comedy based on the 1979 movie contains a scene depicting marijuana use and mild expletives.

"Young Frankenstein"  is recommended for theatregoers 14 and over.  This Mel Brooks musical contains sexual innuendo that might not be appropriate for young children.

"Mary Poppins" is recommended for the entire family.  Like other Disney film adaptations, this musical is appropriate for the whole family, with something for theatregoers of every age.  Although the regular policy for Broadway Sacramento restricts children under 4, all ticketed children are permitted to this production.
